Membership Form and Other Information
You can directly obtain form (1187) to sign up to be a union member by clicking here or by contacting a union official. You can learn about the MANY benefits and advantages in becoming a union member by visiting the AFGE's web site at http://www.afge.org/ , including the links shown above, and by continuing to visit this (Local 1458's) web site.
New dues rates were adopted August 2004 and are as follows: (1) WG's: $12.25 per PP; (2) GS-1 to GS-6: $12.25 per PP; (3) GS-7 and GS-8: $13.25 per PP; (4) GS-9 and GS-10: $14.25 per PP; (5) GS- 11 and up: $15.75 per PP; (6) Retired members: $22 per month.
Once you complete and sign form 1187* (Section A), you must give it to the Local President, Bridgette Rodriguez, or mail it to her at 12630 NW 22 Court, Miami, Florida 33167 in order that Section B of the form is properly endorsed, thereafter mailed to the agency by the Local and the AFGE NST records are also updated, accordingly. *Please remember you canNOT, repeat canNOT, use an INS address for your membership address. It must be your own, personal mailing address.
Thereafter, within 3 pay periods, dues should begin to be taken from your paycheck. Also, you will receive the Government Standard newsletter from AFGE on a quarterly basis. If your dues are not deducted or you do NOT receive the Government Standard, that means there is a problem with your form or your address, so please contact Bridgette Rodriguez, President about this as soon as possible. CHANGE OF "LOCAL" MEMBERSHIP OR CHANGE OF ADDRESS BY AFGE 1458 MEMBER:
If you were a current union member at another legacy INS location (with another union Local) and recently switched job locations to the Florida area, please immediately contact the President in order to have a Transfer form completed and submitted. In addition, if you are an AFGE 1458 Local member, but have changed your address or you haven't been receiving any union/AFGE newsletters recently, then you need to contact your nearest steward or union official to make sure the union has your most current address.
